Lisa Olivia Munn was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The mother of her child, Kimberly Schmid, lived in Vietnam as well, and she has Chinese ancestry, while her dad, Winston Barrett Munn, comes from a family that has strong roots in The American South. Her parents divorced when she was the age of 2. Her family consisted of her mother, who served in the United States Air Force, as well as her stepfather. She was raised primarily in Tokyo, Japan, even when the family moved often. In this period, Olivia was a part of several theatre productions. Then she was a Japanese model.
